Testing – the act of subjecting to examination in order to determine the characteristics or performance of materials, products or instruments.

Our testing arm comprises a broad spectrum of expertise that provides an integrated and comprehensive array of cutting-edge services including;

  • Chemical & Microbiological Testing Services
  • Environmental Testing & Consultancy Services
  • Materials Engineering Services
(Mechanical Testing, Metallurgical Testing & Evaluation, Failure analysis)
  • Non-destructive Testing
  • Product Reliability Testing and Consulting Services

Chemical Analysis Services
Chemical analysis is performed on various types of metal samples such as the chemical constituents of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys and the determination of toxic/heavy metals concentration level in controlled products, typically for compliance to RoHS. In addition, chemical analysis allows for the identification of the chemical composition of unknown materials for reverse-engineering or failure analysis, and verification of the chemical composition of raw materials, semi finished / finished products for compliance to material specification for manufacturing purpose.

Microbiological Testing Services
Microbiological testing serves to detect microbiological contamination in air, water and food samples. These tests are usually conducted on samples obtained from cooling towers and water fountains, Chinese proprietary medicines, and indoor and outdoor environments.

Environmental Testing & Consultancy Services
These can be divided into four major categories, namely air, water, soil and industrial hygiene and noise.
- Air tests include source emissions from power plants, refineries, waste incinerators, crematories, cement plants, asphalt mix plants, and chemical process plants. It also includes indoor air quality assessments for commercial buildings, institutions, hospitals, court rooms and prison cells.
- Water tests are largely based on APHA methodologies, ISO 11731 and AS/NZ 3896 for the examination of water and wastewater.
- Soil tests include environmental baseline studies of soil and groundwater. Solid waste is also tested for toxicity characterisation and its suitability for landfill.
- Industrial hygiene and noise monitoring tests for workers’ exposure to airborne dust, chemical contaminants and factory noise. The industrial hygiene and noise monitoring are requirements instituted by the Workplace Safety and Health Act, 2006.

Environmental consultancy services are offered to companies working towards achieving the Environmental Management Systems and ISO-14000 certifications. These consultancy services, typically, comprise assessment study to prioritise potential ‘high risk’ environmental, safety and health impact and pre-certification audits to help companies close the gaps in their preparatory work towards certification.

Mechanical Testing
Mechanical testing assesses the mechanical properties of components, and materials used in industrial products. By subjecting these components and materials to mechanical loading, their performance under such loading can be evaluated. The results obtained can be used for design purposes, fit-for-service assessment or for quality control.

Metallurgical Testing & Evaluation
The metallurgical evaluation process examines the microstructure condition of metals and materials. It plays an important role in the selection of alloys and ensures that proper manufacturing processes have been applied. The metallurgical condition of a material also provides insight information on the thermal and mechanical history and presence of undesirable phases or features, such as cracks, inclusions and welding defects.

Failure Analysis
The consequences of failure of critical systems or components are always costly, and significant production time or worst, human life may be lost. It is therefore essential to understand the system of cause and effect, not only to explain the event but also to prevent it from happening again. The failure analysis services offer a systematic process through which the nature and cause of failure of systems and components can be established and recommendations are made to reduce the possibility of future failure.

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)
NDT is performed to detect symptoms of impending failure such as surface and sub-surface flaws in materials, welds and components. To ensure that a suspect component is free from defects, NDT assesses the condition of components in situ without removing or damaging them.

Product Reliability Testing Services
Product reliability test services are provided to determine whether products and components will function as specified under designed use conditions over its lifespan. These tests include an assessment of the effects of vibration, shock, impact, temperature and humidity, dust and corrosion on the functionality of the product.
